Geocaching
I first read about geocaching in June of 2001 in a issue of Backpacker magazine. I checked it out and signed up on geocaching.com. I didn't have access to a GPS though, I think you can rent them at REI, but I never got around to it. Then my friend Erik invited me to go Geocaching!! I was all about it! I have a list of all my found caches on my geocaching profile page. Then March 22 2003 my friend Erik invited me on a trip! I was renergized and shortly thereafter I bought my own gps receiver!
Basically Geocaching is this:
You know how the world is in latitude and longetude coordinates? Well, I go online, grab some numbers and enter them into my gps unit. Then I get to that spot in the world and look around for an ammo box, tupperware container or film canister. Then I sign the log, take something from the box and leave something. Once back home I enter my log online on a page dedicated to the cache.
It is like a treasure hunt! You never know if you'll find McDonalds toys, cds, or anything else of use. Fun stuff man.
